Let’s face it – not everything in life is inherently fun – at least not all the time.
In addition to the fun stuff in life, we’ve got bills to pay, a house to clean, a car to maintain, and other necessities that we must do.
But if you’re like most Americans – instead of sitting down and just knocking them out – you’ll find every distraction in the world as to why you cannot complete your task.
If it’s not scrolling social media, it’s watching a movie, or it could even be something that is good (like reading a book) but not the best use of your time.
The key to getting through the mundane tasks isn’t to delay them – it’s to make them fun – and learn while you do them!
Here are a few ways you can tackle even the most basic tasks.
Think About What You Can Learn
Often times people get distracted by boring tasks because they think they are in fact boring.
Instead, think about what you can learn in the process.
If you’re doing your own taxes, research all the deductions you can take, or the difference between a Roth or traditional IRA.
When you start to gather information, you become empowered and therefore are able to make more educated decisions.
Having this knowledge will help challenge your brain, and cause you to focus on the task at hand.
Make Sure You Have What You Need
When you go to send thank you notes, the last thing you want to realize is you’re out of stamps or envelopes.
Before starting a project, make sure you have everything you need.
One of the biggest time wasters in projects is the distraction of having to keep going back to the store to get the supplies you need.
That kills the momentum you had going and will end up delaying your task.
But if you take time to gather all your supplies before you start, you’ll be prepared and able to minimize unnecessary distractions.
Focus On The Task
Whatever you’re doing – focus on the task at hand.
If you’re detailing your car, pay attention to the intricate details like cleaning between your seats and your vents.
Meal prepping for the week? Take in the experience – the smells of freshly chopped garlic the sound of the food sizzling on your cast iron pan.
Instead of wishing you were somewhere else, focus on the details of what you are doing.
Who knows, you might find you actually enjoy it, and the time will fly on by!
And the best way to make boring tasks fun… is to have fun!
Invite a friend over to help you tackle clearing out your closet.
Put on some music and dance while you clean your house.
Use your creativity to make things fun – and life will never be boring.
