Add These 4 Items To Your Morning Routine To Bring A Little Joy To Your Day

There are two types of people – those that jump up as soon as their alarm clock goes off, and those who push snooze and pull the covers over their face hoping to sleep more.

But whether you love or loathe mornings, how you start your day off can truly affect your entire day – from productivity levels to your overall mood.

So if you’re looking for a few ways to start your day off right and add a little bit of sunshine to your day, check out these morning ideas which are sure to bring joy to your day.

Read Scripture And Practice Gratitude

Hopefully you sleep with your phone on silent – so you aren’t awakened with every notification that comes your way (if not – you should really consider silencing your phone while you sleep – it will change your life).

So as you wake up, instead of opening your email and social media, open your Bible instead!

In fact, the Bible app has a setting where it can remind you to read the verse of the day at a certain time – so set it for when you first wake up!

You’re bound to get a dose of news and chaos throughout the day, but at least you can control how your morning starts.

By reading life-affirming truths, it will help get your mind in a healthy place to face whatever the day throws at you.

In addition, consider writing in your gratitude journal, thanking God for your blessings.

If you truly can’t think of anything to be thankful for, start with the basics – like another day on this earth!

Yes, You Need To Eat

It might sound basic, but it’s amazing how many people prioritize the needs of others over basic human needs like eating.

Yes, you might have a whole pile of work waiting for you or a house to clean – but start your day off right with a healthy breakfast.

You won’t be as productive if you’re starving or your blood sugar is low – and quickly inhaling a bowl of sugary cereal won’t give your body the fuel it needs to get going.

Consider making a quick and easy “chaffle” – which is just 1 egg, ½ cup of cheese mixed together (with whatever spices you like) and cooked on a mini waffle maker.

If you’re really hungry, cook some turkey bacon alongside it and make a sandwich.

Getting protein and filling your stomach with something that will satisfy you will help give your body the focus it needs to tackle the day and lessen the urge to snack all throughout the morning.

If you really aren’t hungry, even a small bowl of Greek yogurt with blueberries will help you get much needed nutrients into your body.

You’ll be amazed at how much your mood is affected by your stomach!

Don’t have time to cook?

Consider batch cooking breakfast if you aren’t a morning person.  Protein muffins, pancake squares, and egg muffins are all easy and can be frozen to last the whole week.

Shower And Put On Your Favorite Shirt

Don’t underestimate starting off your day with taking a shower and getting ready!

Now if you’re working from home, there’s no need to go crazy…

…but feeling clean and wearing your favorite (yet comfy) bright yellow shirt or warm pair of leggings will help you start off your day right.

Staying in your (probably need washed) PJs for the entire day with your hair dirty on top of your head can actually throw off your confidence level, believe it or not.

We all have those days, but make sure it isn’t an everyday thing for you!

Put on a little lip-gloss and rock that favorite shirt – you’ll start your day off with confidence which is sure to trickle into helping you achieve all your goals.

Think Of One Way To Bless Someone

Each day, think of at least one way you can do something nice for someone.

It could be something like paying for the person ahead of you in line at the drive-thru or posting encouraging words on your social media account.

You can help a coworker who is overloaded with projects, do something nice for your roommate like wash her dirty dishes, the list goes on and on!

If you wake up with the mindset “I’m going to do something nice for someone today”, it will keep your eyes and mind open for ways to bless those you come in contact with.

Mornings don’t have to be a miserable time, even if you don’t naturally gravitate towards waking up early, try instituting one or more of these ideas into your daily routine and you’re bound to feel more joy.
